Ways to Volunteer at Habitat

COME VOLUNTEER WITH US!

We need everyone, whether you want to build a house, organize in the office, plan special events, or work with families. Whatever your talents are, they can help put low income families in Kern County into homes. Call 661-861-8449 or click on the "volunteer" button to get started!


HOME CONSTRUCTION


HOUSE LEADER

The House Leader serves as the project manager for the construction of the home. Working in coordination with the Building Committee and the Construction Supervisor the House Leader assures that all support functions are in place for the building project.


CREW LEADERS

Crew leaders are skilled or semi-skilled individuals who can understand a task and communicate how it is to be done to unskilled volunteers. They are responsible for directing volunteers in assigned tasks and monitoring quality control and workmanship.


ELF CREW

The "Elf Crew" works on site during the week to prepare the home for the following Saturdays’ work crew. The “”Elf Crew” is generally on site from 8am to 1 pm Tuesday through Friday.


COMMITTEE INVOLVEMENT


Your Involvement

Actual construction of houses is only one part of the Habitat operation. The variety of skills given on the Volunteer Interests Survey indicates the wide range of opportunities for your involvement.

The committees listed below are another way of supporting the Habitat mission. All of these committees are seeking active members.


BUILDING COMMITTEE

Coordinate all activities directly related to the construction schedule and site.


CHURCH RELATIONS

Promote and facilitate church participation and develop Covenant Church Partnerships.


FAMILY RELATIONS

Screen applications, conduct interviews and home visits, and select partner families.


FAMILY SUPPORT

Act as liaison between the homeowners and the Habitat for Humanity organization to ensure that each group’s needs are met.


FUNDRAISING

Develop and implement fundraising plans.


PUBLIC RELATIONS

Increase community awareness of Habitat for Humanity goals and objectives by publicizing special projects and implementing a public relations plan for all news media.


SITE DEVELOPMENT

Develop long-range schedule for future building projects and acquire appropriate sites.


FINANCE COMMITTEE

For those with strong financial background e.g. finance, banking, CPA, etc.


OPERATIONS COMMITTEE

For those with a background in operations, HR, management, etc.


STRATEGY COMMITTEE

For those with experience in long range planning.


GROUP INVOLVEMENT

Churches, service clubs businesses and other organizations may wish to become involved as a group. We have a variety of resources including speakers, video and printed materials, are available to help spread the word within your organization.
