Provencio Jun 1, 2016
We are excited to introduce to you the Provencio family, current Kern County residents, who were recently selected as one of the partners for our A Brush with Kindness revitalization program. Rocque D. Provencio and his wife Pauline Provencio are a happy couple who have lived in Kern County for over 50 years. Mr. Provencio enlisted in the US Navy in Wasco, California in 1952 and served the United States during the Korean War. They have had a beautiful marriage for 64 years, 53 of which they lived in the home Habitat for Humanity helped them rehabilitate. No job is too small when it comes to helping out Habitat’s local community. The Provencio family was in need of a water heater but did not have the money to afford one. Theirs was very old, did not product hot water and greatly restricted water pressure through the house. A water heater is an absolute necessity for typical domestic uses such as cooking, cleaning, bathing and space heating.
Foster Dec 30, 2015
We are excited to introduce to you Joan Foster, a current Kern County resident, who was recently selected as one of the partners for our A Brush with Kindness revitalization program. Ms. Foster moved to Kern County from the United Kingdom in 1972 and has called Bakersfield her home for over 40 years now. It was here that she raised her 2 children Currently, Ms. Foster is undergoing chemotherapy for Mesothelioma, a very rare lung cancer. This illness has prevented Ms. Foster from doing her favorite daily activities such as gardening, however, she keeps a very positive mindset which helps her meet the challenges that come her way.
Thanks to a wonderful partnership between Wells Fargo Bank, our A Brush With Kindness underwriter, Ms. Foster was able to have her back door replaced and re-aligned, her sink handles changed, installing GFCI plugs outside and installing plates for carbon monoxide alarms, and is now able to live in a more safe and comfortable home as she continues her journey pursuit to health.

Our Family Biography
Our family is originally from Mexico, since moving to America, we have moved around quite a bit. God was always with is, and always led us to where he wanted us to go. Moving to Bakersfield in itself was a blessing. Finding a church took us a few tries, but when we finally found Christ the King Catholic Church, it became very clear that it was where God wanted us. There are five kids in our family. There’s Suzie who is 21, and currently studying Theology and Spanish at Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. The rest of the kids are still at home. There’s Mariana who is 19 and expecting a little blessing we get to call Mateo in December. In the mean time she is at home getting ready for the baby, but is planning to go back to college to study business. Next there’s Pedro Jr. He is 16 years old and is a junior at North high school, he also attends Life Teen, which a teen program at Christ the King, where he started helping with the confirmation program. He loves to play soccer, and he’d like to go professional when he grows up. Esteban is 13 and is 8th grade he is the manager of broadcasting at Beardsley Jr. High, where he announces the daily announcements the school has, as well as to what they are having for lunch, he loves buildings things and would like to be a roller-coaster engineer when he grows up. Last but not least there’s Catalina, she is 7 years old and is in second grade at Beardsley elementary. She is a very talkative and very sweet girl, she loves to play teacher with her friends.
Our family enjoys being active and involved in our parish and we also enjoy family time, especially when we are all together and really get to enjoy each other. We like being outdoors, whether it’s planting new things in the garden, or enjoying some time with our dog. We also have two soccer players in our family so we have some fun games outside as well. We are very simple family, and live a simple life. Granted we have had our struggles, but God always holds us together, and that’s all that matters because if God is all we have, we have all we need. He is the center of our home, and that is what brings joy into our family.
